Title
ADAS Addiction & Recovery Services
Description
ADAS was established in 1987 as a response to concerns within the Harlow community about the lack of facilities for the treatment of alcohol and drug dependency problems. We have recently adjusted our constitution to amend the objective from support those with substance misuse issues, to covering all addiction issues now. We provide support across the whole of West Essex and have worked in partnership with other organisations throughout Essex. The need for our services remains high. Our vision is to help clients make lasting positive changes, which improve their lives and empower them to become more independent. Our work is needed now, as much as ever and ADAS is committed to supporting people in Harlow and West Essex to ensure that addiction issues do not damage the local community. We are dedicated to helping people break the destructive cycle of addiction and supporting individuals to move into and sustain their recovery. We offer a range of services that are open to anyone who is concerned about their addiction issues. Our core activities include individual counselling (following BACP ethics and guidelines) support work and group work. All of our counsellors join us as a student on placement and our retention rate is high once the student has qualified where the average volunteer counsellor will stay around 2-4 years. All student and qualified counsellors receive BACP accredited clinical supervision to underpin their work and to develop their skills as counsellors, while safeguarding the charity at the same time. Every year we help over 500 clients through our service, with every client being able to access counselling for up to 12 months and our Recovery Groups which are time unlimited. Supporting children and families - ADAS was one of the first substance misuse services in the UK to recognise the need for a specialist service for children who have a parent who has difficulties with alcohol, drugs and now all addiction issues. Since setting up our Child and Family Support Service, we have seen a wide range of cases and witnessed first-hand the destructive impact addiction can have on family life. We work with around 40 children and provide support from 100 family members every year. ADAS has been successful in supporting many thousands of people across Harlow and West Essex and has become a well-regarded organisation within the local community.
