Social Change by Esmee Fairbairn Foundation #580318

The Foundation aims to improve the quality of life for people throughout the UK by supporting work that focuses on the arts, children and young people, the environment, food and social change. Applicants should apply for the amount that they need. The Foundation does not set limits and makes grants across a fairly wide spectrum of sizes. However, the Foundation rarely makes grants that are smaller than £5,000 and it makes only a small number of grants in excess of £500,000. It is unusual for the Foundation to give a grant of this size or larger to an organisation with which it does not already have a relationship. Funding is available for core or project costs, and this includes staff salaries and overheads

India Open Grants by Paul Hamlyn Foundation #580317

This Fund seeks to meet our strategic aim to enable vulnerable communities living in priority geographical areas to improve their lives.

Many communities in India have inherent strengths which are often overlooked when modern development frameworks are used to view them. They have closely knit societies, progressive views and approaches to resource utilisation and sustainability, and are extremely conscious of their relationship with the environment. Their traditional knowledge has relevance to modern ways of living.

But traditional communities face many challenges. They are riven by attitudes that promote inequality, mostly due to caste. They are strongly patriarchal and not necessarily democratic in their outlook. The opening up of spaces, development of infrastructure, particularly roads, and hegemony of the modern development paradigm have all led them to become vulnerable. They are now unfortunately living on the margins and have been excluded in the development process.

Movements, over time, of people to urban centres, driven by economic forces, have transported some of these issues to urban centres. Urban development concerns emerge largely around building a balance between the hugely important roles that migrants have and will play and the ability of urban centres to provide for them. Addressing the concerns of the urban poor is a significant development challenge, but knowledge and experience is far less than for rural settings.

Major Grants by Garfield Weston Foundation #580316

For application of £100,000 or more. These are reviewed at one of the Foundation’s eight Board meetings a year and are carefully planned in advance to be fair to all applicants. We can give you bespoke guidance on whether you are eligible. Please note that if you are applying for £100,000 or more we typically expect your project and/or annual income to be in excess of £1 million. Please do not apply for a major grant through our website.
